@the496rocket please, try to fill the form in the read this first post.

There must be something wrong in your setup. RetroPie on a raspi3 with decent peripherals can run smoothly any game from the 8/16-bit era without any tweak. Just install, config input, put your ROMs and play.

[Footnote: OK, maybe 3D games, like StarFox (SNES) and Virtua Racing (Mega Drive), can stutter a bit. But the games you mentioned should work just fine.]

For anyone else having this issue:

I'm still not sure what caused it. But I "fixed" it by downloading 4.2 and doing a fresh install.

@Pixel0501 not sure what you exactly mean, but every controller has its own config (at least for the ReteoArch cores/emulators). It's usually at /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/JOYSTICK_NAME.cfg.

Thank you for the reply. I'm using the Pi supply.

The controller works on the pc for my emulators great. So not sure what the issue is here.

I have ordered a snes one from PiHut now. See how that goes.

Once again thanks for the reply.

@Dgeler said in PS1 USB adaptator not working ( Usbhid error -32):

@Dochartaigh Did you have this kind of error using a not working one ?

This was months ago, but I don't remember seeing any new error(s)...just the inability to map the buttons correctly making the controller useless - that's why I mentioned these controllers (along NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis) being flaky unless you find the right one. Heck, even that above adapter I linked to isn't perfect - it works on my like 12 different PS1/PS2 dualshock controllers but won't work on the non-dualshock/non-analogue-stick versions for some reason...

@amoreau13 said in iBuffalo USB Controller Works in Menus not in Games:

Trying to setup a new iBuffalo USB 8 button controller. Runs through the standard emulation station setup just fine. I've also successfully used JSTEST to test out the controller and it passes the test. When I get into games the start button doesn't work so you cannot start a game and cannot exit a game. When loading the game I get the little yellow message and it says the controller is not configured. I've scoured the web for answers and haven't come up with anything.

I'm using a Raspberry Pi3 and the latest version of Retropie. I have a Logitech F310 controller that works just fine with the system. No issues at all with the start button.

Any suggestions as to what I can try? I've tried reprogramming the controller several times using emulation station.

      Adding some info to request:

Raspberry Pi 3 Retropie 4.1 downloaded from Retropie web site Experiencing controller issue with stock emulators in Retropie - Sega Genesis games and NES games tested so far - select and start buttons do not work. Used JSTEST to make sure I had the button numbers correct on the controller in the config file. Controller is iBuffalo USB SNES controller

@pjft I had actually changed my hotkey for the RA menu in-game to be R/L/down/Y, which was working before, but isn't anymore. Maybe I can use the keyboard to get in and then go from there.

I installed xboxdrv after this started, hoping it would fix the issue I was having with the 360 controller. It didn't appear to change anything.

@RoswellWitness I believe what lordward1234 did was navigate to the folder /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/ and just delete the file retroarch.cfg. I would ssh into the pi, navigate to the file location and delete it.

Looks like i forgot to note it above but i made sure the hack was off. Just to be sure i removed the Bluetooth connection, then re-added it, then reconfigured the input. No luck. The fight continues.
